And then the lens fell out.

I’ve ALWAYS wanted a telescope! To be able to study the surface of planets or the moon would be fantastic! I am the kind of person that studies for fun – maps, for example, are extremely interesting.

Sounds boring, right? That’s why friends call me The Professor as a nickname. It’s why acquaintances approach me when they desire to know something random. Sure, they could Google it, but I engage in dialogue (dialog, for Americans) rather than just spit out facts. Granted, this was before AI.

Back to the telescope – I finally found one I could afford, “thanks” to one of those damned “spend this much and get all THIS for *free!” (Insert eye roll). I really wanted that telescope. A small fortune later, I finally got it – hoping it wouldn’t be crap like nearly all my other purchases. Putting it together seemed like it would be ‘a piece of cake’, but it wasn’t. And yes, then a lens popped right out of one of the pieces. So frustrating.

It was right when the ‘planetary alignment parade’ was coming up. I was looking forward to not just seeing it, but photographing it on my phone – but that was the very lens that I couldn’t get back in place. *sigh*.
